Frequently Asked Questions

Ingredients

  • Tallow is rendered fat from grass-fed, pasture-raised cattle. For centuries it was a trusted salve for skin health. Its structure is nearly identical to our own natural oils (sebum), which is why it absorbs so seamlessly. Rich in vitamins A, D, E, K, and essential fatty acids, tallow supports elasticity, barrier repair, and hydration — without synthetic chemicals or preservatives.

  • Purity and intention. Our balms contain only two things: grass-fed tallow and carefully chosen essential oils. No water, no stabilizers, no preservatives, no fillers. Just nutrient-dense, ancestral ingredients that work with your skin — not against it.

  • Our tallow is always sourced from 100% U.S. grass-fed and grass-finished cattle. We partner with farms that raise animals on open pasture, never in feedlots. For botanicals and essential oils, we choose suppliers who provide the cleanest, most trusted ingredients available — often organic or wildcrafted — but always selected for purity, safety, and integrity.

Use & Care

  • Yes. Tallow is naturally well-tolerated because of its similarity to human sebum. For very sensitive skin, babies, or children, we recommend our unscented balm first and a simple patch test before full use.

  • Yes. Tallow is deeply nourishing and helps keep tattooed skin soft and vibrant over time. For fresh tattoos, we recommend waiting until your artist advises that it’s safe to apply any balm. In the early stages of healing, if you choose to use Nude Ritual, opt for the unscented blend to avoid potential irritation. Once healed, our scented blends are a great way to keep your tattooed skin moisturized and healthy.

  • Warm weather can soften or collapse the whipped texture, which sometimes makes the jar appear less full. You haven’t lost any product — the net weight is the same. Simply place the balm in the fridge briefly to firm it back up.

  • Not required. Store your balm in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Refrigeration may help extend freshness, but it isn’t necessary.

  • Our balms are best within 6–9 months of opening. Because they are oil-based and contain no preservatives, keep the lid tightly sealed and avoid introducing water into the jar.
